Bentley Commons
Keene, New Hampshire
A historic mill in New Hampshire is converted into an independent living facility.

In the center of Keene, New Hampshire, an existing historic 34,000 sf mill building was envisioned as the prime focus of the Bentley Commons Independent Living Facility. The adaptive reuse of the existing factory building incorporates nearly all of the facility’s community space along with 11 loft-like residential units. A four-story 70,000 of state-of-the-art addition attaches to the mill building and compliments its architecture and the surrounding pedestrian-oriented community.

The mill building’s historic timber-frame was salvaged and designed into the facility’s structure and trim work. The roof enclosure includes energy-efficient structural insulated panels while the addition was enclosed with thermally-tight rigid insulation to ensure efficient heating and cooling.
